Papers, 1728-1917.

The papers of Jacob S. Glen relate to both Glen's business and personal life. There is also material from other Glen family members and relatives of allied Sanders, Visscher, Van Rensselaer, Horsford, and Edwards families. The collection includes a great deal of land papers including deeds, leases and agreements. Family landholdings were located in present day Montgomery, Schenectady, Schoharie, and Herkimer counties in New York State. Other areas of the collection include financial records of the general store and other business interests, memorandum books and personal letters written to Glen. The continued operation of the general store by John V.S. Edwards and later by his sons, J.S. Glen Edwards and Edward Edwards, is documented in a series of detailed account ledger books, day books, receipts, invoices, and canceled checks, from 1860 to the early 1900s. Some of these records also indicate they also operated a cheese factory from the 1860s to the 1880s.
